Falcon 2C Inspections: More Than a Major Maintenance Even

Falcon 2c Inspections
Falcon 2c Inspections

A Falcon 2C inspection represents significant downtime and expense. West Star Aviation helps operators maximize that investment by combining specialized inspection expertise, major component overhaul management, and aircraft upgrades into one coordinated maintenance event.

For Dassault Falcon operators, the 2C inspection is one of the most demanding scheduled maintenance events in the aircraft’s lifecycle. Extensive structural access, component removals, and overhaul requirements create scheduling challenges, but also valuable opportunities to accomplish additional work while the aircraft is already disassembled.

West Star Aviation’s experience across the Falcon 50, 900, 2000, 7X and 8X platforms allows operators to take advantage of specialized structural expertise, in-house engineering and NDT capabilities, and established component overhaul resources. By coordinating these requirements with avionics modernization, connectivity upgrades, interior refurbishment and paint, West Star helps reduce duplicated labor, minimize additional downtime, and return the aircraft to service with greater capability and long-term value.

Understanding the Falcon 2C Inspection

A 2C inspection goes well beyond a routine C-check. For Falcon 50, 900 and 2000 series aircraft, the event generally occurs at the 12-year interval, while Falcon 7X and 8X aircraft typically follow a 16-year interval. Actual requirements vary by aircraft model and approved maintenance program.

Depending on the aircraft, the scope can include:

  • Structural inspections: Detailed evaluation of the fuselage, wings, horizontal stabilizer, and other critical structures, including corrosion detection.
  • Extensive aircraft access: Removal of interior furnishings, access panels, and other components.
  • Component overhauls: Landing gear, flight control actuators, engine vibration isolators, and other time-controlled components, as applicable.
  • Systems testing: Required operational and functional checks of aircraft systems.

West Star utilizes specialized tooling and procedures to inspect and address internal corrosion within the horizontal stabilizer, potentially reducing extensive disassembly in certain situations. In-house structures, engineering, and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) resources support the evaluation and repair of inspection findings.

Landing Gear Overhaul: Planning Is Critical

Landing gear overhaul is often one of the most significant scheduling considerations during a Falcon 2C inspection.

With industry overhaul turnaround times extending beyond historical norms, West Star works closely with OEMs and overhaul providers to coordinate early component removal, repair, and return schedules.

For applicable Falcon models, West Star also offers landing gear exchange, rental, and temporary roll-around gear solutions. These resources can provide additional flexibility, allowing maintenance, structural work, or paint operations to continue while landing gear components are undergoing overhaul.

Make the Most of Your 2C Downtime

With significant aircraft access already required, the 2C inspection creates an ideal opportunity to incorporate additional upgrades and modifications without duplicating labor or scheduling another maintenance event.

Avionics and Connectivity

West Star’s avionics specialists can coordinate EASy IV upgrades, cockpit modernization, navigation enhancements, and replacement of aging avionics equipment.

High-speed connectivity installations, including Starlink, Gogo Galileo and other satellite communications solutions, can also be integrated into the inspection. Coordinating antenna installations, structural modifications, wiring, and interior access can reduce duplicated work.

Cabin Management and Interior Refurbishment

Operators can take advantage of existing cabin access to replace aging Cabin Management Systems (CMS), upgrade passenger controls and entertainment systems, or refresh interiors with new seating materials, carpeting, wood veneer, and LED lighting.

Exterior Paint

West Star’s paint facilities at East Alton, Grand Junction and Chattanooga can coordinate exterior refinishing with major maintenance, helping operators avoid a separate paint event while improving appearance and corrosion protection.

Service Bulletins and Reliability Improvements

Applicable Service Bulletins, recurring discrepancies, and reliability enhancements can also be addressed while aircraft systems and structures are already accessible.

The Advantage of West Star’s Falcon Expertise

West Star Aviation’s extensive Falcon experience, including major 2C inspections on the Falcon 7X, provides valuable knowledge of recurring structural findings, component overhaul requirements, and complex maintenance coordination.

Key technical advantages include:

  • Specialized Falcon inspection tooling and corrosion access procedures
  • In-house structural repair, engineering, and NDT capabilities
  • Established OEM and component overhaul coordination
  • Landing gear exchange, rental, and temporary gear solutions
  • Integrated avionics, connectivity, interiors, and paint services

These resources allow West Star to manage unexpected findings, coordinate multiple work scopes, and maintain technical oversight throughout the inspection.
