Proper planning is essential when it comes to managing life-limited components on your aircraft. For operators of the Cessna Citation Model 525 Series (525, 525M2, 525A, and 525B), one critical area to watch is the bleed air pre-cooler system. These components are subject to strict life limits, and recent parts shortages have made proactive planning more important than ever.
Understanding the Life Limits
Per Chapter 5-11-00 of the Model-Specific Maintenance Manual, the following life limits apply to bleed air pre-coolers on Model 525 Series aircraft:
- Bleed Air Pre-cooler (Cessna P/N 9914402-2 or Supplier P/N 8161-1, nickel) – Replace every 2,000 hours or 84 calendar months, whichever occurs first.
- Bleed Air Pre-cooler (Cessna P/N 9914402-4 or Supplier P/N 8161-2, nickel) – Replace every 3,500 hours or 108 calendar months, whichever occurs first.
- Bleed Air Pre-cooler (Cessna P/N 9914402-6 or Supplier P/N 8161-5, stainless steel) – Replace every 3,200 hours.
- Bleed Air Pre-cooler (Cessna P/N 9912624-1 or Supplier P/N 8292-1, stainless steel) – Replace every 3,200 hours.
Supply Chain Challenges
Historically, Textron has maintained an AOG reserve stock of these pre-coolers, allocating parts based on aircraft time and utilization. However, recent supply challenges have made it more difficult to secure these components promptly. Operators are advised to verify availability well ahead of the scheduled replacement interval to avoid unnecessary downtime.
If parts are unavailable, Textron Engineering may provide an extension letter based on a visual inspection and approval process, but this should be viewed only as a temporary measure — not a substitute for proper planning.
How West Star Aviation Can Help
