Dedicated In-House Facility for Challenger Landing Gear Overhaul & Many More

Challenger Landing Gear Overhaul
Challenger Landing Gear Overhaul

Many Bombardier Challenger aircraft owners may not know that West Star Aviation can perform landing gear restoration and overhaul on-site during heavy maintenance. This process is done in our specialized facilities, which helps ensure quality control and minimizes aircraft downtime.

Our Grand Junction (GJT) overhaul facility covers 22,000 square feet and has over 30 employees dedicated to landing gear services. We are authorized to conduct detailed inspections and complete restorations/overhauls for Bombardier CL601, CL604, CL605, CL650, CL300, and CL350 aircraft.

 Inspection and Overhaul Schedules:

  • CL601: Requires a detailed inspection followed by restoration/overhaul on a 60 month alternating schedule.
  • CL604/CL605/CL650: A detailed inspection is needed at the first 96-month interval, with subsequent inspections and overhauls required every 96 months thereafter.
  • CL300/CL350: Follow the same schedule as CL604/C605/CL650 models, but the side brace actuators only need a detailed inspection starting from the 96-month interval.

Most CL604/CL605 aircraft are entering their 192-month+ events, while some CL650 aircraft are approaching their initial 96-month inspections.

 Inspection vs. Overhaul:

  • Detailed Inspections: These are primarily visual examinations with minimal disassembly, focusing on areas like attach points and load path areas that may have corrosion, cracks, or paint damage.
  • Restoration/Overhaul: This is a comprehensive process where the landing gear is completely disassembled, stripped down to bare metal. Dimensional and NDT inspection is performed at this time, and parts are repaired or replaced as necessary. West Star maintains an extensive selection of rotable parts specifically for the purpose of down time reduction when repairs are necessary.

Cadmium plating, anodizing, and other metal treatments are applied as necessary in-house, improving both quality and turn time. Any required repairs such as re-chroming, oversize bore repairs, and bushing replacement are all performed before a high-quality paint is applied prior to reassembly.  After the gear is re-assembled, extensive testing is performed before the gear is ready to be re-installed in the aircraft.

A significant advantage of choosing West Star Aviation is our full-service capabilities. We provide a wide range of services, including inspections, interior work, avionics, paint, landing gear, and much more. This all-in-one approach simplifies the maintenance process for customers, making it easier to manage their aircraft needs.

In addition to Bombardier Challenger landing gear services, West Star Aviation also supports Learjet, Embraer Phenom, and King Air landing gear. For more details about our capabilities, please contact one of the specialists listed below:
